Book 1- Egoist
Prologue
The door to the great king's quarters creaked open to reveal a simple farmer shrouded in fear.
"S-sir! I-I sensed something was amiss! I thought you had to be alerted right away!",
the farmer tried explaining. The furaga king glared at him with his unforgiving eyes, judging his intrusion.
"Whatever it is, I'm sure it can wait. I've got a meeting to attend.",
growled the king. Overtook by fear, the farmer took a step back
"I-I'm sorry! I'll come back later then..!".
"You better!", the king snarled harshly,
"You better not be wasting my time!".
The farmer nodded and swiftly flew out. The king looked out of the window.
"Sundown already!?" ,
he snapped,
"Oh that lowly peasant! I'm gonna be late!".
The king grabbed his bag and left without a word to any of his servants. He mustn't be late. These meetings could possibly be a way of getting the upper hand! No way he'd let something like this pass by! The sun was barely visible by the time he got to the meeting caverns.
"Let's hope they didn't start yet.... Although they should have started an hour ago...",
he ran in without hesitation and sat at the huge table, surrounded by two figures.
"You're late, Emargis. What happened?",
one figure tilted it's head,
"You always arrive on time, if not a lot earlier.”.
Emargis growled
"I got held up! Those pesky peasants always get in the way of everything!".
The two figures looked at each other.
"I must say, I've never seen such arrogance! What did you tell them? That they are too inferior to understand the serious situation and possible conflict?"
A hooded figure laughed, mocking him,
"I know not everyone understands regardless, but the way you go about everything makes everyone except for you sound like idiots!".
"Shut up, weirdo... I wonder just how long you will last in the position you're currently in without anyone to set you straight! It would be hilarious to see you crawling to anyone and begging them for help!",
Emargis spat,
"Besides, you barely do much at all! No resources needed, no food needed! What kind of people are you!?".
The hooded figure snorted,
"Sir, all we need are crystals! If what you just proposed was an alliance request, I am afraid the answer is, and always will be, no.".
The first figure growled and then let out a fierce roar
"Emargis, and um, the other guy... That's enough! Uh... What did you say your name was again?".
The hooded figure smirked
"Some things better stay a mystery, Herz. My name, is one of them. Sorry, not sorry!" ,
he chuckled. Herz sighed,
"Now that Emargis arrived, we can move on to the matter at hand. What are the options we have if Dream Invaders attack?".
Emargis growled
"If they attack you, Herz, I'm sure you'd need an alliance. You just lost a war with them.". Herz nodded with hesitation
"What about you? Any other ideas?",
he turned to the hooded figure.
"They won't."
Herz and Emargis looked at each other, somewhat confused. Herz tilted his head again, "Why do you think so?".
The hooded figure chuckled once more
"It's rather simple! Their leader Traeh just ended a war with you! And I do know how he lost just as much as you have. His father, his friends, his girlfriend and a best friend who was never against him! Not until now, anyway... My point is, he is in emotional trauma just like you, Herz. He is way too weak to do anything to us!".
"How do you know all this!? How can we be sure you haven't allied them!?"
Emargis spat. The hooded figure have a quiet growl
"Hazulians would never do something as low as that! Unlike you, wyverns and furagas, we are tough! And I am not saying this because of my huge ego! I am saying it because you have no right to accuse us of doing something so weak!".
Herz looked around in anticipation.
"Why don't we just continue this another time? I mean, look outside! The moon is already out! I promised my people I'd help!",
Herz opened his wings
"Goodbye!".
Emargis looked at the Hazulian leader
"This isn't over...".
"Oh it is!"
the hooded figure chucked once more before flying out like a dart. Emargis growled and opened his bag. He took some items out
"I'll get you one day... You better believe it…"
Chapter 1
The sun was already high in the sky. Two little furagas were sitting on the stone railing of the large castle which cast a shadow upon the rest of the kingdom.
“When will dad come home? I hate when he disappears like this!”
“I dunno, Rosie. He’s probably on one of those dumb meetings again.”
Rosie sighed and continued looking around to see if her dad was on the way home.
“Belinda, look!”
Rosie pointed at the horizon.
“There’s smoke coming from the forest!”
“What!? Dad is still out there!”
Belinda gasped in horror.
“We have to go find hi-“
“No, silly, he’s right there!”
Rosie chuckled as she saw a figure approaching the castle. Belinda sighed in relief.
“Well, let’s go down anyway… I don’t like heights, and this railing looks very old…”
“Pfff… Party breaker…”
Emargis entered the castle and went upstairs. A guard ran to him.
“Sir! Where have you been? A fire was detected in the forest! Are you alright?”
“Yes… I doubt the other kingdoms are.”
Emargis growled
“Now out of my way!”
He spat, pushing the guard away. Emarigis entered his quarters and sat down.
“That bastard better be dead for good…”
Someone knocked on the door again.
“What is it now!?”
Emargis snarled at the same villager from before.
“S-sorry for disturbing you, S-sir!”
He wimpered.
“I-I spotted a hybrid! Here in the city!”
Emargis stayed quiet for a minute then grinded his teeth together in rage.
“Did you kill it….?”
“Wh-what?”
“Did you kill he hybrid….?”
The villager’s pupils shrank.
“N-no, it was only a child! Wh-why would I kill a child!?”
Emargis grabbed the villagers throat and looked him right in the eyes.
“No hybrids allowed… This includes children! Is that understood!?”
The villager gulped.
“I can’t hear you…”
The grip got tighter with every passing second. The villager gasped to regain his breath. Emargis’ eyes narrowed. He threw the villager across the room.
“..Get out of my sight..”
The villager gave a quick nod and flew out in a hurry. Emargis rolled his eyes and growled. He walked up to a bookshelf and moved it aside, revealing a long, dark, staircase. A devilish smirk appeared on his face as he disappeared into the darkness.
“Cordis~”
He chirped. A quiet sigh was heard from across the room. Emargis glared at the shady figure chained to the wall.
“What’s wrong? Have you lost all hope already? It’s been only about four thousand years!”
The white wyvern let out a tiny growl and looked down again.
“Pity. I kinda miss your hope speeches. Not really.”
Emargis reached for the wyvern’s long ginger mane, only to be greeted by a roar. He snarled at the wyvern.
“Don’t forget who actually bothers to feed you…”
“Don’t forget you’re the one who are responsible for me being mentally and physically scared. I have no reason to be grateful.”
The wyvern’s greyish-blue eyes stared at Emargis, as if he was tearing him appart in his head. Given the circumstances, that was likely the case.
“Cordis, your arrogance is starting to annoy me.”
“My arrogance!? What about you!? Or is your ego so big it blinded you!?”
Emargis hissed at Cordis in rage before swiping his claws across his face, leaving a deep wound. Cordis looked at the ground again and sighed.
“Why didn’t you just kill me again…?”
Emargis scoffed.
“What fun would that be?”
Cordis rolled his eyes.
“Leave me be…”
“Hey Cordis.”
Emargis scoffed again.
“Remember how your son is dead?”
The wyvern looked down and sighed.
“No? How about the fact your kingdom is in ruins?”
Emargis kept provoking.
A grayish bolt of lightning flickered across the wyvern’s white scales.
“Hit a nerve, I see..”
Emargis looked away.
“You’re not that fun these days… I’ll go find someone else to try and get to…”
He snarled as he left the dark room. Sitting at his desk, he looked around for inspiration. In the corner of his eye he caught a glimpse of the bag he carried to the meeting. Just as he was reaching to take it, he remembered just who he could attempt to torture. With a smirk across his face, he flew out of his office and headed for the hazulian hive. The sky was unusually clear and the fire was put out by now. Emerges scoffed at the sheer thought of it. It caused enough damage anyway. Not like the only person who saw you will dare to say anything. Even if he would, not like anyone will believe him.
With a rough landing, Emargis finally arrived at his destination. He was about to start looking for his target.
“Hey!”
A loud voice shouted behind him. He turned around to see a weird, white creature.
“If you’re looking for who I think you are, I might be of good help.”
The creature grinned.
“For a price, of course…”
Emargis looked at him with a hint of unamusment.
“And why exactly should I pay attention to a random person like you..?”
The creature was clearly insulted, but, to no surprise, Emargis didn’t care.
“Ahem, alright then, I guess I’ll just take what I need without your approval.”
The creature disappeared. Emargis continued his probably long search. And who he was looking for was after a long time found. The Hood turned around and looked Emargis right in the eyes.
“What do you want…”
Emargis pretended to think for a moment.
“Actually, yes, what do I want exactly?”
He paused for a bit before bursting out with laughter.
“I am here for payback, of course! And this time I will make the truth hurt much more than your mockeries!”
The Hood raised his eyebrow.
“Oookay… So truth will hurt more than the truth. Nice logic.”
He turned his back to Emargis again.
“Hood, you never seize to amuse me. You believe your own lies. Each and every one of them! There has to be a reason for it!”
The Hood face palmed.
“You know, Emargis, maybe if your ego wasn’t so big, you wouldn’t be denying my words.”
“Oh, but I think I know why you’re like this.”
Emargis crawled closer.
“Your parents died, didn’t they”
Hood rolled his eyes.
“No they didn’t..”
“There, there… We all lost a loved one at one point or another, no need to be ashamed!”
Emargis cooed.
“Are you even listening to me!? They are both alive and well!”
Hood snarled.
“Oh, fine… But rest assured, Hood. I will break you. I will find out your darkest secrets. You will pay!”
Emargis hissed before leaving Hood alone.
“Yes… I bet i will…”
The Hood looked away in annoyance.
